The life of Persephone at first seems like a tragic story. Daughter of Demeter and Zeus, kidnapped by Hades into the underworld. A dark and desolate place. She lives there half the year and the other half on earth. A symbol of the seasons. But also for the fight with the shadows inside. Persephone shows us how to overcome trauma. Her story tells of alternating light and hard phases, the certainty of having a bright outlook even in the darkest hours. She teaches us never to give up. I wanted to create a dark atmosphere for my portrait of Persephone. A harsh, harsh environment, but in contrast a determined and lively gaze.
